Xserve G5

The Xserve was Apple's brief, serious attempt at the server market — a 1U rackmount running Mac OS X Server, designed for data centers that wanted Apple architecture in a professional rack form factor. The G4 models launched in 2002; the G5 models followed in 2003. Apple discontinued the Xserve in 2011 after Intel-based Mac minis and Mac Pros proved more versatile for the same workloads. A machine that existed for exactly one specific moment in Apple's history.
