Apple's answer to the question of how cheap a Mac could be. The Classic ran the same 8 MHz 68000 as the original 1984 Macintosh — six years of engineering progress had lowered the price without improving the processor. At $999, it was the first Mac under $1,000 and the machine that put Apple into schools and budget-conscious homes throughout the early 1990s. Uncomplicated and reliable, if not fast.
