Known as the Fat Mac for its quadrupled RAM, the 512K was the machine that made the original Macintosh actually usable. The 128K struggled to run MacWrite and MacPaint simultaneously; the 512K gave users room to work. Apple priced it at $2,795 — $200 less than the original — and the computing public finally started to believe the Mac was something real.
